As Oregon State Treasurer, I
will help
Oregonians invest in their children and their communities. I will
promote the state program that gives families a tax-free way to save for
college and also will propose programs in the treasury to encourage
financial literacy and homeownership, which are keys to healthy and stable communities.
Teach
financial literacy to
protect
consumers
and
help Oregonians make sound decisions and
invest in themselves.
Expand
educational programs offered by
the State Treasurer by partnering with non-profit organizations
and businesses including information on home buying, credit
reports, credit cards, payday loans and sub-prime loans.
Enable
low- and moderate-income families to save
for home purchase down payment, rental security deposits and
other asset-building goals by enhancing the
Individual
Development Account program.
Make it easier for
Oregonians recover their property.
Restructure and market the
Unclaimed Properties Division website
to make it user friendly and easier to return unclaimed property
to rightful owners and heirs and declare one month a year as
“Stake Your Claim” month to increase awareness.
Help make health care affordable with the
Oregon Health Fund.
Passed by the 2007 Legislature as part of the Healthy Oregon
Act, the fund will allow people to pool health care dollars to
leverage buying power.
